PLSG up Against COVID-19, Disinfects the Entire State

As the highly contagious coronavirus spreads around the world, Plateau State Government in its continuous effort towards ensuring that citizens of Plateau are protected against the spread of the coronavirus disease, has embarked on the fumigation of the entire state as a preventive measure against the spread of the coronavirus disease that remains a global emergency.IMG-20200411-WA0026

In Plateau State where no case has been recorded yet as at press time, the government is not relaxing but has remain vigilant and proactive as it has embarked on the fumigation of the entire state.

At the official flag off of fumigation exercise of the entire state, held at the Terminus Round About, Jos, Governor Simon Lalong said: “We are gathered here in continuation of our efforts at fighting the Corona Virus Pandemic that is ravaging the world and continues to spread in Nigeria. Our mission here is to begin the fumigation of the entire State against the Corona Virus Disease.”

IMG-20200411-WA0008The Governor disclosed that though no case has been recorded yet in Plateau State government cannot relax adding that it has remain vigilant and proactive hence the reason for a total lockdown of the State.

Governor Lalong who performed the flag off in company of the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba added that aside the fumigation, the lockdown would also help to reduce any tendency for inter-State transfer of the disease and would also enable the state to respond appropriately to any suspected case and contact tracing.IMG-20200411-WA0027

While calling on the citizens to comply with the lockdown directive announced by the government, the governor appealed for patience.

Said he: “Ordinarily, we should not be doing an event like this on a Good Friday, but the times warrant this, and we continue to appeal for the patience and understanding of our citizens.

“For our Christian brothers and sisters, let us use this Solemn Easter Friday to cry unto God within our homes to show us mercy and remove this pandemic.IMG-20200410-WA0192

The governor who reassured that Government will soon roll out palliative measures to assist the weak and vulnerable in the state said, “With God on our side, this situation will not last long and very soon, we shall bounce back and resume normal life. All we need is patience and prayers.”

Earlier in his remarks, Commissioner for Environment, Usman Idi disclosed that the fight against the disease is multifaceted hence the need for the decontamination of the entire state.

As according to him, the decontamination is one of the components of the measures set by the World Health Organization and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

Also speaking General Manager of Agricultural Services Training Centre, ASTC, Dr. Suzan Bentu, responsible for the fumigation exercise assured of the effectiveness of the chemicals being used adding that aside the potency, the chemicals are eco-friendly.

She added that the chemical would not only kill the virus but would also destroy bacteria and other pests.

Highpoint of the event was the symbolic spray of the chemical by Governor Lalong who used one of the tractors to spray the chemical on Ahmadu Bello way.

Meanwhile, there has been total compliance to the lockdown order issued by the state government as major roads have been deserted by motorists while streets and neighborhoods remained quite devoid of the usual human activities that hitherto characterized the various nooks and crannies of the city centre as well as the local government areas of the state.
