A group under the umbrella of Northern Christian Elders Forum has expressed worry over the incessant attack by armed herdsmen in the region, accusing the government for not doing enough to protect the lives and properties of the victims.

In a statement, the Kaduna State chapter of the NORCEF, advised the Federal Government to “ensure that the nation is safe” by putting an end to the bloody killings.

The Christian group said, “It is with great sadness and concern that we join all men and women of good and reasonable conscience in the country to call on the authorities to arise and check the increasing insecurity in our country where innocent and law- abiding citizens are being killed ceaselessly.”

The Chairman, Garba Asondu, explained that the killings in Kajuru, Birnin Gwari and Giwa councils, and environs, and the violent crimes were becoming unacceptable.

Said he: “The primary purpose of government in this modern world is to protect lives and property, and any government, which fails in this responsibility is opening itself up to the accusation of failure, tacit connivance or promotion of violence for some ulterior motives.

“As respected Christian elders, we believe that the APC government in Kaduna will not allow itself to be linked with this negative allegation, as posterity will not forgive it.”

According to Asondu violence in all history has always been an ill- wind that blows nobody any good, no matter the temporary benefits that one might seem to gain.

He appealed to the armed forces to “be patriotic, nationalist and very professional in the discharge of their responsibilities without fear or favour.”
